10 Years On, Son Says Goodbye to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur captain, Son Heung-min, has announced that he will be leaving the club this summer, ending his amazing 10-year stay in North London.
Son, who is now 33 years old, joined Spurs from German club Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015. Since then, he has become one of the best and most loved players in the team’s history. He scored 173 goals in 454 games and helped Spurs win many matches.
One of his biggest moments came in May, when he led Tottenham to a 2–1 win against Manchester United in the Europa League final. This win ended a 17-year wait for a trophy. As captain, Son was the one who proudly lifted the cup.
While talking to reporters in Seoul, South Korea, during the team’s pre-season tour, Son said leaving Tottenham is “the hardest decision of my career.”
“I came to London as a young boy who didn’t even speak English,” he said. “Now, I leave as a grown man. I’m very proud.”
Son is still under contract until 2026, but many believe he may be joining Los Angeles FC in the United States very soon.
His last game for Spurs might be this Sunday, when they play Newcastle in a friendly match in Seoul, his home country.
Tottenham’s new coach, Thomas Frank, who took over from Ange Postecoglou in June, had kind words for Son:
“He’s a true Spurs legend and one of the greatest players in Premier League history. If Sunday is his last match, playing in front of his home fans would be the perfect goodbye.”
Tottenham is also set to play Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, but it’s still unclear if Son will still be with the team by then.
