$4.7M US Fraud Scandal: Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Seized by Ghana’s Anti-Corruption Unit & FBI

Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), together with the FBI and the US Justice Department, have taken away a luxury car from famous Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale. The car is a 2019 Lamborghini Urus.

The agencies said they acted after the FBI and US Justice Department asked them to search Shatta Wale’s home in Accra. The search happened in June 2023 at his apartment in Trassaco Valley Phase 1. EOCO’s team found the Lamborghini and took it away.

US officials said the car is connected to money made through crimes by a man named Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is now serving a prison sentence in the US for financial crimes.

Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah, gave the car to EOCO without any problems. He asked EOCO not to make the seizure public because the car is a big part of his image and brand. EOCO agreed to let him hand over the car himself.

The EOCO officers were armed during the search, which is normal for their safety.

Right now, the US authorities want to bring the car back to the US as part of the money that Nana Kwabena Amuah owes.

EOCO also said they are investigating Shatta Wale and a former senior officer from Ghana’s National Signal Bureau to learn more about the case. They will ask both of them to come and talk soon.

The EOCO team will also send a final report to the FBI and US Justice Department about this case.

Before the news came out, Shatta Wale posted messages on Facebook. He complained that the EOCO boss, Raymond Archer, came to his house with armed officers, and said it was humiliating.

He wrote that the EOCO boss was wrong to do that and warned him not to make people dislike the government.
