Popular Afrobeats singer 9ice, whose real name is Akande Abolore, has shared some deep and surprising thoughts about the music industry. He said music is not just about talent – it is spiritual, and the devil has a strong influence on it.

While speaking on The Nancy Isime Show, 9ice said many people don’t know the spiritual side of music. He explained that artists must be careful about the kind of songs they sing and the messages they put out.

“Music is spiritual. The devil is like the choir master,” 9ice said. “That’s why many musicians do things like smoking and more.”

9ice also told young people who want to become musicians to be ready for what they are stepping into.
“If you’re coming into this industry, know what you are entering. I’m not lying to you,” he warned.

He shared how he used to dream of winning a Grammy Award, but it never happened. He mentioned that while Burna Boy has won it, he never got the chance.

The “Gongo Aso” crooner also spoke about his personal struggles. He revealed that he once vomited blood for six months and doctors could not find the cause. He believes it was a spiritual attack.
“It wasn’t medical. It was something else. Something spiritual,” he said.

When it comes to religion, 9ice said he doesn’t follow Christianity or Islam. Instead, he practices African traditional religion.
“I’m not a Christian or a Muslim. I’m a Babalawo (a traditional priest). I’m African. That’s what I believe in.”

He added that he wished he had started following traditional beliefs earlier. He was inspired by Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, who also practiced traditional African spirituality.
“Fela used to go to Ogun, and back then we didn’t understand. But now I do,” he said.

9ice encouraged young Africans to learn about their roots and family traditions. He advised them to talk to their parents and elders about their history and culture.
“We have our own messengers and prophets in Africa. We should be proud of them,” he said.
