Obi Urges Tinubu: Show Nigerians More Compassion

Peter Obi,also wanted to be Nigeria’s president in the 2023 election, is asking the current president, Bola Tinubu, to care more about the people.
Obi said being president is not just about power or enjoying luxury things like private jets and expensive holidays. He said it’s about helping people and being kind, especially when they are suffering.
Speaking on TV during an interview, Obi said many Nigerians are going through hard times, and it looks like President Tinubu’s government doesn’t understand or care enough.
He gave an example:
“If I were president, I wouldn’t waste money on a new private jet. I would rather use that money to fix hospitals, especially when 80% of our small health centres don’t work,” he said.
Obi, who was once the governor of Anambra State, said he lived simply when he was in office and focused on using money to help the people, not for luxury.
He also said a true leader should be ready to face danger for their people.
“If people in the country are dying, the president should be willing to risk his life too,” he said.
Obi was very sad about how President Tinubu reacted to some sad events in 2024. One example was when many children died in a stampede at a Christmas party in Ibadan. Obi said instead of visiting the families to comfort them, the president stayed in Lagos to celebrate the holiday.
He also said Tinubu didn’t go to visit people in Yelwata, Benue State, where there was a terrible attack and many people were forced to leave their homes.
Obi said, “A president should care and show that he is truly sorry when people are suffering. Nigerians want to feel that their leader understands their pain.”
He added, “A country without kindness and care from its leaders is not doing well. Leadership without compassion is not good for any country.
