Chelsea Set for £270m Player Sales to Cover Summer Spending Spree

Chelsea are getting closer to balancing their transfer money this summer as Carney Chukwuemeka is set to join Borussia Dortmund permanently, while Aaron Anselmino will go there on loan.

Chukwuemeka, 21, played well at Dortmund last season while on loan. Now, the German club wants him back for good, paying about £24 million, and Chelsea will also get more money if he is sold again in the future. He decided to return to Dortmund even though RB Leipzig also wanted him.

This deal means Chelsea have now made about £273.4 million from selling players – the most in the league. That is almost the same as the £277 million they already spent on new players this summer.

UEFA had warned Chelsea to keep their transfer balance positive if they wanted to register new players for the Champions League. The club had already been fined for breaking money rules before.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Anselmino, who joined from Boca Juniors in January, will spend the season at Dortmund. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca told him he needs regular game time to grow.

Chukwuemeka leaves after playing 32 games for Chelsea since moving from Aston Villa in 2022. Anselmino has only played once, but the club still believes in his future.

Chelsea are not done yet. With 9 days left in the transfer window, they are looking at new signings, including Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.

Some players could still leave too, like Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique George, and others from the so-called “bomb squad” – which includes Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Axel Disasi.
