Nigeria Rocked by Osimhen Concern Ahead of South Africa Encounter

Nigeria will not have star striker Victor Osimhen when they play South Africa on Tuesday in the 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Osimhen got hurt on Saturday during Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo. He picked up a small injury on his chin and had to leave the game early.

On Sunday, team doctors said Osimhen still felt pain and will not travel with the Super Eagles to South Africa.

“Victor Osimhen has a bruise on his chin. He is not feeling well and will stay back in Nigeria,” the medical team explained.

His absence is a big problem for coach Eric Chelle, who may now use Cyriel Dessers or Tolu Arokodare as the main striker.

Arokodare scored the winning goal against Rwanda and will hope to shine again.

Right now, Nigeria are third in Group C with 10 points, while South Africa are top with 16 points. The Super Eagles need a win in Bloemfontein to keep their World Cup dream alive.
