The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has announced that it received a record-breaking 10,717 entries for the 2025 edition of the popular music awards. This is a big jump from last year’s 9,076 entries!
AFRIMA shared the news on Monday, saying the huge number of submissions shows that the awards are truly respected across Africa and the world. The entry period started on May 27 and ended on August 8, and people sent in songs, albums, and music videos from all parts of Africa and even outside the continent.
Submissions came from artists, producers, DJs, dancers, video directors, record labels, and even upcoming talents. West Africa sent the highest number with 5,215 entries, while Southern Africa followed with 2,080. Eastern Africa sent 804, Central Africa had 291, Northern Africa had 267, and Africans living abroad sent in 75 entries.
A group of 13 judges from different African countries and the diaspora have started working in Lagos to review the entries. They are checking for quality, originality, impact, and how well the music connects to African culture. This judging will end on August 17, and after that, the nominees list will be announced on August 24.
One of the judges, Adam Tiran from Southern Africa, said, “The high number of entries shows how powerful and creative African music is. AFRIMA has become a global stage where African artists are seen and celebrated.”
Fans from all over the world can start voting for their favorite artists on September 5 at www.afrima.org. Voting will stop one day before the big Awards Night, which will be held on November 30.
All the voting results will be checked by a top international auditing company to make sure everything is fair and honest.
AFRIMA is proudly partnered with the African Union, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and Lagos State, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu supporting the 2025 edition.
