Clock Ticks Out on Eze Clause as Arsenal Make Their Move

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is still on Arsenal’s radar, even though his £68 million release clause ended on Friday, August 1.
Eze, 27, is said to be open to joining Arsenal. But the Gunners have not yet paid what Palace want. Instead, they are hoping to agree on a cheaper price later before the transfer window closes on September 1.
According to the BBC, Arsenal believe Palace might lower their asking price rather than risk losing Eze for less money next year when he enters the final year of his contract.
Eze has been one of Palace’s top players. He has scored 40 goals and made 28 assists in 167 games. He also helped the team win the FA Cup last season.
He plays well as a number 10 or from the left wing—two roles that would fit nicely in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team.
Right now, Arsenal are trying to sell at least one forward before making a formal offer for Eze.
Even though the release clause has expired, Arsenal are still very much interested. But now, Palace have more control over how the talks go.
