CWC Chaos: Luis Enrique Risks Ban Over Heated Neck-Grabbing Incident

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique might get banned from coaching after a shocking moment during the FIFA Club World Cup final against Chelsea in New Jersey.

Chelsea won the match 3-0 with a strong performance, but things got very heated near the end. With less than 10 minutes left, PSG midfielder Joao Neves was sent off (red card) for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair.

After the final whistle, things got worse. Players and staff from both teams got into a fight on the pitch.

During the chaos, a video showed Luis Enrique grabbing Chelsea forward Joao Pedro by the neck. Pedro then fell to the ground.

Speaking later to Spanish radio, Enrique tried to explain what happened. He said:

> “I’m stupid. He pushed me, I touched him, and he fell… I was just trying to stop the fight, not make it worse.”

At his press conference, Enrique added:

> “There was a lot of tension. My plan was to stop it from getting bigger, but things got out of control.”

Joao Pedro, the Chelsea player involved, also spoke after the match. He said:

> “I was trying to help my teammate Andrey Santos. People were pushing, and I got caught up in it. They [PSG] don’t know how to lose, but that’s football. Now it’s time to celebrate.”

Even though both men are trying to move on, FIFA is not ignoring the situation.

According to Cadena SER, FIFA is now checking the video and may give Luis Enrique a coaching ban. This means he could be stopped from coaching for a certain time — not just for international matches, but all competitions.
