Drama in Lagos: Monarch Dethrones Six Chiefs Over Labour Party Campaign Impersonation

There’s been serious drama in Lagos State, especially in the Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom. The traditional ruler of the area, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, who is known as the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu, has removed six of his chiefs from their positions. The reason? They went to a political campaign without his permission — and even pretended to represent him there!

According to what GistMilNija gathered, these six chiefs attended the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off event in the Apapa area of Lagos. But here’s where it got serious: they allegedly impersonated the king — as if he had sent them or approved their presence. But the king said he knew nothing about it and was not happy at all.

Who Are the Dethroned Chiefs?

The six affected chiefs are:

1. Chief Lateef Ojora – Bale of Alaba Oro

2. Chief Saliu Biliamin – Bale of Alafia Dodoro

3. Chief Taiwo Hassan – Bale of Oke Ira

4. Chief Idris Ojora – Bale of Abule Kere

5. Chief Hakeem Oseni – Bale of Mosafejo Amukoke

6. Chief Sule Balogun – Balogun of Abule Kere

These are not small names in the kingdom. They are community leaders who play big roles in the day-to-day traditional affairs of Ijora and its surrounding areas.

What the King Said

After finding out about what happened, Oba Oyegbemi called a special palace meeting on Monday. He summoned the six chiefs, members of the Ojora Council, and other traditional leaders to come and explain themselves.

During the meeting, the king expressed his deep disappointment. He told them clearly that they had broken palace rules and acted without his knowledge. The monarch reminded everyone that no chief is allowed to act or speak on his behalf without permission. Their job, he said, is to represent the throne respectfully and truthfully, not to pursue personal political interests.

The Final Decision

After hearing everything, Kabiyesi took a bold step — he dethroned all six chiefs right there and then. That means they no longer hold any title or authority in the Ojora Kingdom.

In the statement obtained by GistMilNija, the king explained that his decision was to protect the dignity and tradition of the palace. He said that he won’t allow disorder or disloyalty within his leadership structure.

Support for the Government

Interestingly, while addressing the issue, Oba Oyegbemi also took time to commend the current government for the work it is doing in Ojora Land. He promised to continue supporting development projects that would benefit the people of the community.

The monarch also stressed the importance of honesty and teamwork between traditional rulers and those who represent them in any setting — especially in matters that concern politics.

A Word to Other Chiefs

To avoid something like this from happening again, the king sent a clear warning to all other chiefs and traditional title holders: they must always follow palace protocols and never pretend to speak for the king unless he gives them permission. He reminded them that their positions come with responsibility, respect, and loyalty.

GistMilNija Summary:

Six chiefs in Lagos have lost their royal titles after they attended a Labour Party campaign and acted like they were representing the king — without telling him. The Ojora of Ijora, Oba Oyegbemi, said he didn’t send them and was very upset. He called a meeting, heard their side, and then removed them from their positions. He reminded everyone that tradition and loyalty come first before politics.
