“‘He Tried to Punch Me!’ – Ex-EPL Referee Recounts Shocking Clash with Mikel Obi”

Former Premier League referee, Mark Clattenburg, has shared a shocking story about John Mikel Obi, the ex-Chelsea star.

Clattenburg said the incident happened in 2012, after a heated match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. He made the revelation during an interview on the Undr The Cosh podcast.

According to him, things got tense after the final whistle. As he was in the dressing room, he heard loud noises outside. When he opened the door, Mikel rushed in angrily and started throwing punches.

> “He came in swinging punches. I had to duck. He tried to push me against the wall and shouted at me,” Clattenburg said.

The game had already been full of drama. Chelsea accused Clattenburg of using a racist word against Mikel. They said he called him a “monkey.” But after an investigation, the FA (Football Association) found no proof and cleared Clattenburg of the charge.

However, Mikel Obi was punished for his angry behaviour. He got a £60,000 fine and was banned for three matches.

Clattenburg, who was one of the top referees in England, said the incident stayed with him and affected him deeply.
