The Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (CBAN), also known as Miyetti Allah, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to issue a directive to security agencies for the protection of pastoralist communities across the country.

In a statement released on Friday, April 18, 2025, the association’s national secretary-general, Bello Gotomo, appealed for immediate government action to end what he described as discriminatory practices and rising insecurity facing herders in several states, including Ondo.

Gotomo expressed concern over the alleged ethnic profiling, harassment, and scapegoating of herders, particularly in relation to recent incidents at Opere Market in Kabba Local Government Area, Kogi State, where some herders were reportedly subjected to unlawful arrests and inhumane treatment.

“The Nigerian government must ensure accountability, justice, and protection for all citizens regardless of ethnicity,” Gotomo stated.

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria also called on the federal government, the National Human Rights Commission, and the international community to urgently intervene.

Gotomo urged the National Security Adviser to take swift action to safeguard the rights of herders, emphasizing the need for adequate protection of pastoralist communities from violence and persecution.

The group further appealed to the National Human Rights Commission and the international community to address what they described as a dangerous trend of discrimination against herders.
