Chelsea have officially signed 19-year-old defender Jorrel Hato from Dutch club Ajax for about £38 million. This makes him the seventh new player to join the club under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The young Dutch international has agreed to stay with Chelsea until the year 2032. The transfer was confirmed after weeks of talks between both clubs.
Top football journalist Fabrizio Romano shared that Ajax will receive around €43 million (about £37.5 million) from the deal.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Hato said:
“I’m very excited and happy to be here. I thought about my future and wanted to grow as a player. I believe Chelsea is the best place for me to do that.”
Hato is known for being calm on the ball and smart in defence. Many believe he will play an important role in Chelsea’s backline next season.
