Maduka Okoye Hit with Football Ban for Betting Breach

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been banned from playing football for 2 months because of a betting problem.

The trouble started when he got a yellow card during a Serie A game between Udinese and Lazio on March 11, 2024. Not long after, people noticed that some bets had been placed on him getting that card — with 8/1 odds and over €120,000 won from those bets.

This made football officials suspicious, and they began an investigation. Even though he could have been banned for up to four years for serious cheating (called “sporting fraud”), they decided to go easier on him by giving him a shorter punishment for illegal betting.

Maduka Okoye’s ban will start on August 18, 2025, and end on October 19, 2025. That means he won’t be able to play in six Serie A matches or Udinese’s Coppa Italia game during that time.
