MI Abaga Exposes How Yahoo Boys Are Bankrolling Nigerian Artists

Veteran Nigerian rapper, M.I Abaga, has shared his worries about where the money that supports Nigeria’s music industry is coming from.

While speaking on the So Nigerian Podcast, M.I said that many Nigerian artists get their money from two main sources: foreign countries and internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo Boys.

According to M.I, this is not a good look for Nigeria. He believes that with so many talented musicians in the country, it’s sad that they have to rely on money from fraud or outside the country to grow their careers.

He said the music industry should be supported by honest and local investors, especially rich Nigerians who can help build the music scene in a better way.

The rapper, known for his hit song “One Naira”, explained that many young musicians today are being helped by their fellow young people instead of getting support from big investors or companies.

He said:
“There’s a lot of talk about Yahoo Yahoo because that’s how many artists get their money. What I’m saying is, it’s not right that our amazing music industry depends so much on money from fraud and from other countries. It shows something is not working well in our country. But I believe we can fix it and do better.”
