The football world is in shock after Liverpool player Diogo Jota died in a car crash in Spain. He was just 28 years old.
The accident happened late at night on the A-52 highway, near a town called Zamora in the northwestern part of Spain. According to local reports, the car Jota was in went off the road and caught fire. Sadly, both Jota and his younger brother Andre, who was also in the car, died in the crash. Andre was 26 years old and also played football.
What makes this even more heartbreaking is that Jota had just gotten married two weeks ago. He tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Rute Cardoso, in a lovely ceremony in Portugal.
Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves in a big transfer deal worth £45 million. Since then, he played 182 matches for the Reds, scored 65 goals, and gave 22 assists. He also played for Portugal’s national team 49 times and helped them win the UEFA Nations League twice.
