Charly Boy vs. Lagos Govt: Clash Over Olamide’s Bus Stop Renaming

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy has expressed his displeasure after the Lagos State Government renamed the famous Charly Boy Bus Stop in the Bariga-Gbagada area to Baddo Bus Stop in honor of popular rapper Olamide

The decision was announced by bariga LCDA Chairman Kolade David who explained that the renaming was part of an initiative to celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the Bariga community.

However, Charly Boy, whose name had been linked to the bus stop for years, took to his X (Twitter) account to share his thoughts. He suggested that the move was an attempt to erase history and suppress activism, emphasizing that while names can be changed, legacies remain.

**Charly Boy’s Reaction**
In his post, Charly Boy made it clear that he wasn’t bothered by the name change but called out what he sees as fear from those in power.“

They say they’ve changed the name of Charly Boy Bus Stop. Interesting. But let me remind you—you can rename a place, but you can’t rename a legacy. You can replace the signboard, but you can’t erase the spirit.

This isn’t just about a bus stop. It’s about fear of a man who never bowed to oppressors, who spoke truth to power, and who stood for justice.

Bariga, Gbagada, and all of Lagos know the truth. That bus stop wasn’t named by politicians—it was named by the people, the same people I fought for and stood with.

They can change the sign, but they can’t silence the impact. Area Fada no dey finish!

Legacy isn’t written on a signboard. It’s in the lives touched, the voices awakened, and the fear planted in the hearts of corrupt leaders. So go ahead, change the name. But remember you can’t rewrite history.
