Bauchi Deputy Governor Lights Up Alma Mater with Solar Streetlights

The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Auwal Jatau, has promised to continue working closely with the state government to improve education in all schools across the state.
Jatau made this promise on Sunday at the 10th anniversary celebration of Government Girls College, Sakwa, located in Zaki Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the deputy governor proudly remembered how he helped upgrade the school many years ago—when it was still a Teachers’ College—under the administration of former Governor Isah Yuguda. He said the idea to change it into a girls’ college came from a strong belief that girls’ education is very important not only for the future of the girls but also for the growth of the society.
He praised Governor Bala Mohammed’s government for keeping that dream alive and going even further by investing more in education across Bauchi State.
To show his personal support, Jatau donated solar-powered streetlights to the school. He said the lights would help improve security and make the school environment safer and better for both students and teachers.
“This college is very dear to me,” he said emotionally. “I was once the Head Boy here when it was a Teachers’ College. I still remember our morning assemblies, learning under the trees, and the caring teachers who helped shape who we are today. Coming back here is like returning home. It’s not just about politics—it’s about giving back to the place that helped raise me.”
Jatau also spoke about all the great things Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration has done to improve schools in Bauchi State. These include building and fixing classrooms, hiring and training teachers, and giving out learning materials like books, writing tools, science equipment, and ICT gadgets.
He added that the government has also been working hard to support girls’ education, especially in rural areas, by building special model schools and fixing up older schools with history.
At the event, the Deputy Governor was given an Award of Excellence by the school in appreciation of his past and present efforts to support education. He thanked the school management and promised to continue helping the college grow stronger.
Also present at the occasion was the Emir of Katagum, His Royal Highness Umar Farouk, who praised Governor Bala Mohammed for investing heavily in education and called for more efforts to support girls’ schooling.
