Oyo Partners Manufacturers to Tackle Haulage Fee Evasion

The Oyo State Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry has joined forces with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) to teach factories the right way to pay haulage fees—money businesses must pay when they move goods on the state’s roads.
On Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Mr Adeniyi Adebisi, sent a team, led by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Olajide Okesade, to MAN’s office in Jericho, Ibadan.
Their goal was simple: build a strong partnership that helps factories grow while also making sure the state collects its rightful revenue.
What the Government Promised
1. Stronger Industries – The ministry said it will keep improving roads, power, and other services factories need.
2. Small Business Support – Special help will go to micro, small, and even tiny “nano” businesses. Popular local products such as Gari Oyo and turmeric snacks will be upgraded so they can be sold in other countries.
3. Fair Taxes – Officials promised to discuss tax rules with manufacturers so payments feel fair to everyone.
4. Worker Welfare – A new Industrial Crisis Management Committee will solve problems inside factories and make sure workers are treated well.
5. Data Sharing – The ministry asked factories for up-to-date contact lists so it can talk directly with the right people when new programs start.
How MAN Responded
Mr Samuel Olawoyin and Mr Sebastine Shuiabu, speaking for MAN branches in Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti States, thanked the government for its plans but asked for balanced policies that keep factories profitable.
MAN’s Executive Secretary, Mr Nanzing Rimdan, promised to work with the state to solve challenges such as poor roads, high borrowing costs, and complex regulations.
Why This Matters
By working side by side, Oyo State and MAN hope to:
Increase the state’s income from haulage fees, leaving more money for schools, hospitals, and roads.
Make local products better so they can be shipped worldwide, creating jobs and boosting the economy.
Protect factory workers, ensuring safe and fair workplaces.
In short, the partnership aims to build a stronger, fairer industrial sector that benefits both b
businesses and everyday people in Oyo State.
