I Bought My Burial Plot, Wrote My Will” – Kemi Afolabi Shares Heartbreaking Lupus Journey

Nollywood star, Kemi Afolabi, has opened up about her serious health problems with a sickness called Lupus. In a chat with Doyin Kukoyi TV, she talked about how bad things got and how she once thought she wouldn’t make it.

Kemi said Lupus is a disease where the body starts fighting itself instead of protecting it. Before her diagnosis, she had never heard of it. She shared how she had severe body pains, especially in her joints, and said the pain was worse than childbirth. At first, doctors at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) didn’t know what was wrong, and she was treated for other illnesses until she went abroad and finally got the right diagnosis.

She said, “At the worst time, I couldn’t eat or drink. I was breathing with oxygen. I even bought land for my burial and wrote my Will because I thought I was going to die. But God saved me.”

Kemi added that Lupus has no cure, and she has to take daily medicines and injections to stay alive. She also travels outside Nigeria for treatment often.

Because of her illness, she can’t stay under bright light for a long time like she used to while acting, which has affected her job. She also said it was painful when people made up false stories, with someone even saying she had been “used spiritually.”

She ended by thanking God, her family, friends, and colleagues for their support, saying many people have died from Lupus, but she is still standing strong.
