The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has asked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take action after Moroccan fans used laser lights to distract Super Falcons players during the final match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat.
Even though the Super Falcons won the match 3-2 and lifted their 10th WAFCON trophy, the game was affected by bad behaviour from some Moroccan fans. Green laser lights were pointed at the Nigerian players, especially during important moments like penalties, free kicks, and throw-ins.
Players like Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie were clearly affected, and even the team’s coach, Justin Madugu, said he was also targeted by the lasers. After the match, he said:
“It wasn’t just the players — they pointed the lasers at me too. I don’t think this kind of thing should keep happening in football.”
Many Nigerians are now calling on CAF to do something about it. On social media, fans are angry and say CAF must stop ignoring these laser attacks, which have happened in other matches too. Some people even suggested big punishments like stadium bans or kicking teams out of tournaments if their fans misbehave like this again.
