Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has shared a funny but true story about how she proved she’s really Nigerian.

Ashleigh was born in Leicester, England, and she once played for England’s youth team. But in 2021, she decided to play for Nigeria instead, because her grandfather is Nigerian. FIFA approved the switch, and she joined the Super Falcons that same year for a training camp in Austria.

When she first joined the team, some of her new teammates were not sure if she was really Nigerian.

She told Lagos Talks 91.3 FM, “At first, everyone was wondering how I’m Nigerian.”

But Ashleigh had a cool way to clear their doubts.

She said, “When they ask, I just show them a picture of my dad. Then they go, ‘Oh, okay.’”

Since then, Plumptre has become an important part of the team. She played almost all the matches at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Now, nobody questions where she’s from anymore!
