Tragedy in Gondomar: Diogo Jota and Brother to Be Laid to Rest Saturday After Lamborghini Crash

Liverpool football star Diogo Jota and his younger brother André Silva will be buried this Saturday in their hometown Gondomar, near Porto in Portugal.

The funeral will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, the local church where they grew up. Before the service, there will be a wake (a time for friends and family to say goodbye) at São Cosme Chapel, which is right beside the church.

Jota, who was 28 years old, and André, 25, died in a terrible car crash on Wednesday night in Spain. Reports say one of the tyres on their Lamborghini burst while they were driving on the A-52 highway in Zamora. The car went off the road, caught fire, and sadly, both men died at the scene.

They were believed to be traveling to Santander to catch a ferry back to the UK when the accident happened.

André Silva was also a footballer, playing for a Portuguese team called Penafiel.

It is not yet known if the funeral will be a private family event or open to the public. However, Portugal’s President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is expected to attend to show his respects.

Diogo Jota started his football career in Gondomar and became one of the most loved players from the region. He was expected to return to Liverpool soon for pre-season training after missing some games last season due to injury.

His wife Rute and other family members have been seen supporting each other during this very sad time. They were also at the Zamora forensic unit in Spain where the bodies were checked before being sent back home to Portugal.

The world of football is heartbroken, with many people paying tribute to Diogo Jota — a player known not just for his talent, but for his kindness, hard work, and humble nature.
