If you were not at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic today, you missed one of the biggest street parties Ogun State has hosted in a while.
Zlatan Ibile, the man who blew up from a Mapoly talent hunt over a decade ago, came back to say thank you the only way he knows how — with a free concert tagged “Symbol of Hope Homecoming.” And school no even hold am small. Thousands of students and Abeokuta indigenes stormed the Mapoly Sport Complex, with fans trooping down all the way from Lagos just to catch their fave on that stage.
From student to superstar, back to where it started
There’s something poetic about Zlatan choosing his old campus for this. This na the same Mapoly wey give am the platform wey start everything — a talent show he entered as a broke first-year student just for fun, and won a car he didn’t even know how to drive. Today, he returned not just to perform, but reportedly to unveil a new music studio on campus, aimed at giving the next generation of Mapoly creatives a real shot without breaking the bank.
That’s the kind of full-circle moment Nigerians love to see.
The lineup was not on some small-small levels.

Zlatan didn’t come alone. The stage saw appearances from Shoday, Kingsoundboi, Boy Muller, Bella Shmurda, Small Doctor, and Dave Cash, among other industry names. With a lineup like that, e no surprise say the vibe for Mapoly today almost mirrored a proper Lagos owanbe — energy, sweat, singalongs, and all.
Peace before the party
What made this homecoming even sweeter is the effort students put in beforehand. Ahead of the concert, the Students’ Union Government reportedly organized a peace walk across campus to reassure school management that the event would run smoothly — no wahala, just pure vibes. That kind of organization deserves a shoutout too.
The bigger picture
Beyond the noise and the mic drops, this is really a story about giving back. Zlatan has been open about how much that Mapoly stage changed his life, and bringing that same energy home — plus a studio for upcoming talent — shows he’s not just here to perform and disappear.
Abeokuta got their Lagos concert experience today, free of charge, and Mapoly students got a masterclass in how far a dream from a small campus stage can go.
